The park is a convenient place for the work force of the Myton Cafeoil and natural gas fields located in the Basin. Myton is located 18 miles east of Duchesne and 9 miles west of Roosevelt. The amenities available in Myton are a Laundromat, Gas/Convenience store and the Greasy spoon of Café Country located at the Old Fort Myton, there is also fine dining at the Hollow Moon Restaurant.

For people that wish to get away from the BIG CITY, this is a perfect location. A short drive to Roosevelt to shop for groceries or a 40 minute drive to Vernal for a day of shopping, Then back to the quiet country living of Myton.

With the Uinta Mtns set to the North and the Green River and Anthro Mtns to the South. Just a short drive in any direction and you will see some of the most interesting terrain Utah has to offer. The activities this land has to offer are scenic ATV riding in the Desert scenery of the south or the scenic thick pine Mtns to the north. Although you don’t need an ATV to enjoy this land. Rafting through the canyons of the Green River is always a beautiful and exciting experience.  These areas are exciting places to visit for nature lovers of every type. Butch Cassidy and his gang roamed this land and they say there is still hidden treasure out there to be found.

Fishing and Hunting in Uintah

A 45 minute drive from Myton will put you on the banks of Utah’s premier trout fishery, Strawberry Reservoir. Trophy Cutthroat and Rainbow trout are harvested every year from this body of water. It’s not uncommon to catch and release 40-50 trout a day in this body of water.

There are numerous reservoir’s located in the Basin both on Public and Tribal lands, with a wide variety of game fish to be caught. These species include... Rainbow, Brown, Tiger, Cutthroat and Lake Trout. Large and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Perch, Tiger Muskie, and they say there are Northern Pike in the Green River as well as Large Catfish.

ElkThe Basin also offers excellent hunting opportunities for Big Game, Small Game, Upland Game and Waterfowl. Trophy Elk and Mule Deer are harvested every season on public and private lands. The Ute tribe offers excellent hunting for Elk, Deer, Bison, Big Horn Sheep and Moose and other species on their lands. There are Pheasant hunting club’s located literally minutes from the town of Myton, as well as numerous hunt clubs and outfitters located in the Basin offering exciting hunting experiences for hunters of all ages.    

The Oil Industry and Jobs in the Uintah Basin

oilWith the price of oil on the rise again, production in this industry will be increasing as the U.S. makes its effort to decrease the countries dependency of foreign oil.

Also as the U.S. begins transitioning from fossil fuels, and begins its efforts to go green with clean burning Natural Gas, the employment rate in the Basin should begin to increase in these industries.

People have flocked from all over the country in recent years for these excellent paying jobs in the Uintah Basin.
